This intensive 20-hour training is designed for experienced yoga instructors who are ready to deepen their understanding of advanced asanas and enhance their teaching skills. Focusing on the key elements of inversions, arm balances, and backbends, this course will equip you with the tools to safely and effectively teach these advanced poses to your students, with a strong emphasis on the integration of bandhas (body locks) to support alignment, stability, and energy flow.

Throughout this training, you will:

  1. Master Advanced Asanas: Learn the mechanics, alignment principles, and variations of challenging poses, including inversions (headstands, handstands, forearm stands), arm balances (crow pose, firefly, side crow), and deep backbends (wheel pose, king pigeon, and dropbacks). Understand how to break down these poses into accessible steps.
  2. Emphasize the Bandhas: Explore the importance of the bandhas in advanced asanas. Learn how to activate and engage the Mula Bandha (root lock), Uddiyana Bandha (abdominal lock), and Jalandhara Bandha (throat lock) to stabilize the core, improve alignment, and generate energy. Understand how the bandhas can enhance balance, strength, and control in challenging poses, especially inversions and arm balances.
  3. Explore Teaching Methodologies: Learn how to modify and adjust advanced poses to suit students of different skill levels, ensuring safety and confidence in the practice. Gain insight into how to cue effectively, give clear adjustments, and offer variations to accommodate diverse body types and limitations.
  4. Build Progressions: Develop a clear, step-by-step approach to teaching advanced poses, creating structured sequences that gradually build strength, flexibility, and balance. This will help you guide your students toward achieving more challenging postures over time.
  5. Enhance Your Teaching Skills: Improve your ability to assess individual needs, offer targeted adjustments, and support your students’ growth through thoughtful cues and verbal instructions. Learn how to foster a safe and empowering environment for students working with advanced asanas.
  6. Safety and Injury Prevention: Understand the common risks associated with inversions, arm balances, and backbends, and learn strategies to minimize these risks. Gain insights into proper warm-ups, cool-downs, and modifications for students with injuries or limitations.

This course is ideal for seasoned yoga teachers who want to refine their technique and expand their toolkit for teaching advanced poses, ensuring that their students receive a safe, structured, and inspired practice. By the end of this training, you’ll feel confident in teaching even the most challenging asanas and empowering your students to explore their full potential while understanding the critical role the bandhas play in supporting a strong, aligned, and safe practice.

Pre-requisite: You must take one dharma or rocket class with Yancy prior to the training.
